Chicago’s 8th Annual NAMIWalk took place September 21, 2013 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon along the lakefront in Grant Park. The 5k walk hosted by NAMI Chicago saw thousands of participants bring hope to others by raising awareness, eliminating stigma, and raising funds (over $160,000) for NAMI Chicago and it’s partner affiliates. Thank you to all who helped us surpass our goals!
We are proud to be the host affiliate for NAMIWalks Chicago, one of 88 NAMIWalks that take place annually across the United States. Chicago’s NAMIWalk is completely FREE and open to everyone in the community. The goal of the event is to raise awareness, eliminate the stigma of mental illness, and raise funds for NAMI-GC and our partner NAMI affiliates.
NAMIWalks Chicago has taken place each fall since 2006 along the scenic lakefront trail in Chicago’s Grant Park. The event features live music, giveaways, refreshments, face painters, bounce castles, and more. Teams of walkers show their team pride with unique T-shirts or outfits. Organizations, individuals, families, and even dogs walk together in stride showing their support for mental health and help to bring a voice to those in need of assistance. The scenic backdrop of the Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan, Grant Park, and the museum campus allows for breathtaking photographs and a great time for all.
Online participation and fundraising are encouraged, but not required. Participants should REGISTER as an Team Captain, Team Member, or Individual Walker. Information can be shared electronically or printed and distributed. Walkers can request donations on behalf of their participation using their own walker Web page, and all walkers raising $100 or more receive a free T-shirt on the day of the walk!
Please join us in making a difference.
