Alexa James, MS, LCSW – Executive Director

Alexa assumed the role of Executive Director in 2014. She has a Master’s in Child Development from Erikson Institute and a Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University.

Moshe Brownstein, MSW – NAMIWalks Manager & Community Development

Moshe joined NAMI Chicago as a social work intern in the Fall of 2013. He holds a Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and was hired full-time in May 2014. Moshe is the NAMIWalks Manager and will be spending his other time providing community education, support, and building collaborations in the community.

Rachel Doherty, LSW – Education Programs Manager

Rachel holds a Master’s in Social Work from University of Illinois at Chicago Jane Addams College of Social work and was hired full-time in March 2014. She manages all of NAMI Chicago’s education programs, including internships.

Edlyn Rodriguez, BA – Outreach & Volunteer Manager

NAMI Chicago Staff MembersEdlyn has been with NAMI Chicago since July 2011, and co-leads the Spanish family and social support group. She provides Spanish language support to HELPLINE callers, co-teaches de Familia a Familia, and facilitates presentations and outreach to the Latino community. Edlyn also manages our volunteer program.

Betty Frazier, MHP – Support Specialist

Betty has been with NAMI Chicago since 2001. She runs the social support group, coordinates Social Support Club events, and teaches Pathways in Living classes.

Mariana Gomez, CPA – Bookkeeper

Williams Project

Ashley Williams – Williams Project Director

NAMI Chicago Staff MembersAshley manages our outreach efforts under the Moving On Project.

Luberta Conner Livingston, Marlena Johnson, Sherrie Martin, Juan Pablo Rivera, Debbie Toh, and DaJuan Warren are all Outreach Workers for the Williams Consent Decree. They work in various nursing homes throughout the Chicagoland area, providing information to the residents about their rights under the consent decree.


We host interns from a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs in the Chicago area, including the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Jane Addams College of Social Work, Loyola University’s School of Social Work, the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration, St. Augustine College, Elmhurst College, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, The Adler School of Professional Psychology, and others.
